Rugby league in Liverpool has a long history. Older fans have memories of visits to watch Liverpool Stanley before the war and Liverpool City in the 1950s and 1960s. This history of rugby league in Liverpool covers from the 1850s to the present day. It includes the first Liverpool City RLFC, Wigan Highfield and London Highfield - the forerunners to Liverpool Stanley RLFC - and the club after it moved to Huyton in 1969 until it was wound up in 1997.
