A Westminster XIII
Parliamentarians and Rugby League
Edited by David Hinchliffe M.P.
Foreword by Richard Caborn MP, Minister for Sport
Since 1988 the All-Party Parliamentary Rugby League Group has tackled the key issues facing the game in Parliament. Now the MPs and Lords write about the sport they love - their team, or a particular match or season.
The book reflects a vast depth of knowledge and enthusiasm for the game. It covers every aspect of the game, including dramatic Wembley victories, promotion campaigns and life long commitment to a particular team. Peter Kilfoyle MP recalls the terrifying experience of playing against Artie Beetson, and former England international Derek Wyatt MP gives a Rugby Union point of view.
Profits from the book will be used by the Parliamentary Group to support good causes in the game.
Teams covered include: Bradford, Castleford, Chorley, Featherstone, Halifax, Hull KR, Leeds, Leigh, St Helens, Wakefield, Warrington, Widnes, Wigan, Workington and York.
Contributors include: Lord Jack Ashley, Andy Burnham MP, Harold Best MP, James Clappison MP, Yvette Cooper MP, Tony Cunningham MP, Frank Dobson MP, David Hinchliffe MP, Lord Doug Hoyle, Lindsay Hoyle MP, Peter Kilfoyle MP, Lord Geoffrey Lofthouse, Alice Mahon MP, Sir Brian Mawhinney MP, Ian McCartney MP, Kevin McNamara MP, Lord Peter Smith, Derek Twigg MP and Derek Wyatt MP.
